Corner View...Transportation

Transportation, eh? Well, I drive a very practical, economical car that takes us from place to place reliably. However, I'd rather ride this...

my poor, neglected bicycle. At least I will have the opportunity to ride it to work during the summer when my husband is off (he teaches) and can take Kidlet to her school program. It's a mighty fine bike.

A few Ani transportation facts...

1. I did not get my driver's license until I was 18 (a late bloomer here in the states, as you can obtain it the day you turn 16).

2. I did not get my first car until I was 28. It was my parent's 20-year-old car.

3. I had a wonderful motor scooter (which I adored) when I was 21.

4. I only like to drive cars with manual transmission. I don't like automatics.

5. My favorite mode of transportation is a tie between trains or walking. I was happy to hear my President say that he was going to look into a national high-speed rail system (despite the fact it has no current plans to go anywhere near my town).

6. And I always drive when my husband and I go somewhere together.

My husband is a traim-o-phile. He loves them, and would LOVE to take a train trip across country. I could care less, although I'm sure it would be fun if we did. I like driving, because then you can get out and spend some time somewhere if you want. And I like my bike, for short jaunts. Someday I think it would be so great to do one of those cross country bike things. Although it sounds so hard.

I liked your facts. I was scared to death to drive at 16, but as soon as my Dad forced me to learn (on a manual) I was hooked. I don't think I could have waited as long as you! Although I didn't have a sweet scooter like yourself either.

Thanks for the cool corner view!

Hooray for the train, one of my favorite modes of transportation!

Like those facts! I, too, had a scooter when I was younger -- used it to zip around campus.

Love the pictures! I did get my drivers license when I was 16, but my first car burnt down. (luckily I was not in it when I happened, but my favorite tape was... yeah, that shows my age) I too am not an automatic fan, in fact with the four cars I have had, they have all been stick shift. Although "looking into" and "doing" are two different things, I hope the latter comes to fruition. I always ride when my husband and I go somewhere... I like to check out everything that is on the way. Great post.

I did not get my license until one month before my 18th birthday. I didn't see the need to do it sooner.

Unfortunately, Long Island is one of the most unfriendly commuter areas I've lived in. I work 28 miles from where I live and the cost of the LIRR makes train commuting financially unattainable for me (even when gas prices were super high). Plus, our bus system is rather sparse. sigh. I cannot wait to not live here anymore (again).

There is talk of a rail commuter system here...it would be awesome, in addition to a great national system that actually works and goes fast! ;)

Nice pix.

thank you, thank you all for visiting! my bike is basking in all the compliments. :D

Melissa...hope you get out of commuter purgatory soon!

Allison...ha ha! I'm of the cassette tape era too. I can relate.

Caitlin...my parents wouldn't even let me touch their car (the same car i 'inherited' 15 years later!). that had a little to do with my non-driving issue. :)
